As a lover of Bible history, I think of the Revised Standard Version as an extremely important translation that had a big part in shaping the current landscape of Bible publication, and for that reason alone, I love that Schuyler has created a gorgeous edition of the RSV that honors its legacy. These apocryphal books were positioned between the Old and New Testament (it also contained maps and geneologies). The translation committee attempted to stay as close as possible to its rich Tyndale-King James heritage. Many people used this translation for ~ 40-50 years before arrival of the NRSV or ESV. Overall, Id say it looks darker in-person than my photos, but probably a bit lighter than the photo you linked from Evangelical Bible. The Catholic Edition (which included several changes to the NT and received an imprimatur) was published in 1966. The Cambridge edition is almost exactly the same width, but significantly shorter in length. They include the standard Catholic Deuterocanonicals as well as 1-2 Esdras, Prayer of Manasses, and 3 Maccabees. Their forthcoming RSV will be their first attempt at publishing a bible with the Apocrypha/Deuterocanonical books. And they have several editions with a standard yapp length as well. The Schuylers Quentel Series RSV w/Apocrypha is the best all-around bible I have ever possessed and, even more importantly, used on a daily basis. Schuylers Quentel series (named after William Tyndales first printer) comes in six translations: ESV, NASB, NKJV, NIV, CSB, and now RSV. And in a Bible ecosystem where it feels like the majority of the comments online are about type size, they decreased the standard 11pt Milo typeface (which appears in all of the other editions of the Quentel) to a 10pt size in this Bible to keep it from being too bulky with the Apocrypha. And in every case, there was always something that was either missing or just didnt meet my needs. Both Catholics and Protestants still use Elizabethan English. The RSV Quentel is a gorgeous Bible that offers readers a fully-loaded edition of the Revised Standard Version with premium design, materials, and construction. The typesetting and font are elegant and very readable. You should get one before they run out. I have owned this Bible since its release. There can sometimes be too important of theological points based on whether a you is singular or plural in a particular Bible passage, so I kinda get annoyed when I get to a page in John or something in a modern translation and half the page-bottom notes are Gk. It wasnt a single-column bible, and I wasnt sure I would want to engage the text by writing and highlighting in such an expensive bible. Bottom line; everything in the 5-star reviews is accurate. The Schuyler KJV Reference Bible is their edition of one of my favorite KJV's ever published - the TBS Westminster. The mirror-polished gilding on the Cambridge is extremely well-done, and the binding feels a bit tighter without the slightest hint of imperfections. My search for an RSV translation from 1971, beautifully bound with superior typeset from 2k/Denmark AND the expanded apocrypha ended when I saw this edition published by EVB. Yet the point of this publication is the Deutrocanonical books, so the editors shouldve been hawk like, not grand, itll do. Itll do, but at that price point, there should be something close to perfection, if that doesnt make me sound too fussy. Im not a fan of black Bibles.
